Architects Licensing & Rules in Tasmania
Important regulations and resources to help you hire with confidence in Tasmania.
Architect registration
To become a registered architect you must have a recognised academic qualification or pass the National Program of Assessment, complete practical training, pass the Architectural Practice Examination and apply to the Board.
Professional indemnity insurance
Under the amended Architects Act and Regulations, practising and non-practising architects must be covered by professional indemnity insurance and comply with the Board’s CPD requirements. A minimum cover of around $1 million is generally expected.
Continuing professional development
To renew registration, practising architects must complete at least 20 hours of acceptable CPD each year, with at least 10 hours formal. Formal CPD must span at least two units of the National Standard of Competency for Architects.
Re-registration and transfer requirements
Architects re-registering or transferring from non-practising to practising must submit details of professional indemnity insurance and commit to CPD; depending on the time out of practice, they may need to complete additional CPD or the Architectural Practice Examination.
NCC compliance
Architects must ensure that building designs comply with the National Construction Code to obtain building approval.
