Plastering Licensing & Rules in Queensland
Important regulations and resources to help you hire with confidence in Queensland.
Licence for work over $3,300
Queensland requires a trade contractor licence for plastering drywall or solid plastering when the value of work exceeds $3,300. The licence covers constructing and installing non-loadbearing partition walls, suspended ceilings and cornices.
Licence classes and scope
Select the correct licence class (contractor, company, nominee supervisor or site supervisor). The scope of work includes non-loadbearing fire-rated walls, suspended ceilings and incidental work of another class.
Eligibility and fit-and-proper requirements
Applicants must be fit and proper, have permission to work in Australia, provide proof of identity and evidence of business structure, and meet technical and managerial qualification requirements.
Comply with AS/NZS 2589 and AS 4773
Plasterers must follow AS/NZS 2589 for gypsum linings and AS 4773 for masonry renders and blockwork. Ensure correct adhesive daub sizes, screw lengths and curing times, and follow manufacturer instructions.
WHS obligations and White Card
All workers must hold a White Card, prepare safe work method statements for high-risk tasks, wear respirators and eye protection, and control dust and manual handling risks.
Insurance and environmental management
Hold public liability and workers compensation insurance. Manage waste through recycling of plasterboard off-cuts, appropriate disposal of cement wash water and noise and dust control.
