Rubbish-Removal Licensing & Rules in Queensland
Important regulations and resources to help you hire with confidence in Queensland.
Environmental authority required
Transporters carrying any quantity of regulated waste for a fee or more than 250 kg non-commercially must hold an environmental authority for ERA 57. Generators must ensure transporters are licensed and it is an offence to engage unlicensed transporters.
Record and submit tracking data
For regulated waste, transporters must record and submit waste tracking information using an approved method. They must carry prescribed information from the generator, provide it to the receiver, report discrepancies and retain records for five years.
Classify waste correctly
Regulated waste is classified into category 1 (high risk), category 2 (moderate risk) and general waste. Generators must identify and classify waste using default categories or test results as per Schedule 9 and record classification details.
Use lawful facilities
Transporters must ensure waste is delivered to facilities licensed to receive the type of waste. Giving odorous feedstock or regulated waste to an unlicensed receiver is an offence punishable by penalties.
Track end-of-life tyres and asbestos
End-of-life tyres and asbestos are regulated wastes. Generators must record and submit tracking information; transporters need an environmental authority for ERA 57 unless the load is under 250 kg transported free of charge from their own premises.
